Hello everyone! It has been an amazing journey since I picked up my first ukulele six years ago. From the places I have been and the people I have met, this little journey has gone beyond my wildest dreams. Who’d a known an old beach bum could have this much fun with four strings?
A special thanks for reading my mindless ramblings about the ukulele. I wanted to share with you today a little inspirational note I saw in a ukulele shop when I first started to learn to play the ukulele. This note inspired me to keep playing and just enjoy the instrument.
I was on the island of Maui, in Lahaina, and I came across the ukulele shop on Front Street. I went inside to see their ukuleles. On a shelf in this shop was this hand-written note: (see below).
Yes, that note was from thee George Harrison. You might have heard of him. He was part of a group of four lads from Liverpool known as, The Beatles. This note sums up why I started playing the ukulele. At a tribute concert for George after he passed, his son Dhani said, “Dad always traveled with two ukuleles, one for him and one for anyone else that would play along.”
You heard it, straight from da Cat!
